It took a lot of paper towels soaked in mineral spirits to get
the headstock clean enough to paint. All bearings were masked off and
every hole was plugged with a wooden dowel with masking tape wrapped
around the end. Valspar 4620 gray, oil base, metal primer was brushed
on.
There was a lot of black, tar-based filler that had to be removed
from parts before painting. The outer compounding gear box had to be
further disassembled, also.
